This session was my first official attempt at shooting since Cale was born. Mom (Melissa) was a great sport, letting me use her session as a trial run. Thanks, guys!
On the way down to their house my mind was running wild… what if Cale gets hungry? what if he throws a fit? what if bringing my son along turns into a huge disaster? can I really find a balance between motherhood and the career I love?
Sure enough, I arrived and Cale was starving, but in the end it all worked out. Melissa and I both sat and nursed our hungry babies while we discussed the portrait session and the various shots she wanted. It gave us a chance to get to know each other a bit better, and a chance for our little ones to fall asleep. In the end, shooting with Cale strapped to me felt natural and reassured me that striking a balance was entirely possible… that is until he learns to walk. Until then I’ll take it one session at a time, thankful that I have a career that allows me the flexibility to have my little guy near while he is young.
This first one is my absolute favorite – simple and sweet. I love how only the little fingers and the wispy eyelashes are in focus…

I am always a sucker for those little feet, even when they are covered in little booties!

these are beautiful! I would have loved to have seen a shot of you shooting with your little guy on you
and yes, it is TOTALLY possible to have a balance, however far away that may feel!
xxoo
Beautiful as usual, Christy! And congrats to you on your new assistantship! Certainly these photos prove that you’re up to being both super mom and super photog!
